I checked my alternate address and it’s verified; so I don’t know why the server is returning back that message.

I also have this problem. I haven’t been able to send e-mail through Yahoo since yesterday.
What do you think our chances of Yahoo fixing the problem? I even reported it to Customer Service, but I got no reply. I think Yahoo is content to let their users provide customer service.
I was having the same problem, but it went away beautifully after using the solution provided by Debbie G on a related question (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20080208220255AAcnIaG)
Debbie’s answer (yay Debbie!):
“Had the same problem. Assuming you are not using your ATT e-mail address.
Try logging on to ATT/Yahoo Mail. Then go to Mail Options and add the e-mail address (the one that is not sending) as an account for sending.
ATT/Yahoo will require you to verify that you own the account.
All is well.”
I’m having the same problem (intermittently). It was working for months but then as of Feb 12th 5:07 pm I started getting this error. Since then, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.
The problem is not specific to thunderbird — I get the same error also in Outlook Express. I have an open ticket with yahoo through my ISP so we’ll see what they say.
That worked! Wondering why adding the e-mail as the verified e-mail address as the help message indicated did not work however.
At least, I can send e-mails with non pacbell.net account again.
Just want to throw my two cents out here. Same problem. Changed to post 587 and now I get a slightly different message but it still fails. I tried this “additional email” crap in my yahoo mail (which I never check) and still no luck. This is going to make me punch through a wall. It blows my mind that ATT can allow these things to happen.
Anyone getting anywhere? Help!!!
ok – I just talked to these clowns. There say there is a problem at ATT and that they are going to fix it by midnight centrail time. Cross you fingers!
I am having exactly the same problem. Also using Thunderbird. Problem just started a day or three ago, after I had used Yahoo SMTP and Thunderbird without a problem for years.
Changing SMTP port to 587 does not solve the problem. I’m frustrated, and at my wits’ end.
I too reported it to Yahoo, but as usual they simply referred me to the FAQ (i.e. they didn’t read my mail further than the subject line).
This problem started for me approx. three days ago too. I’m using Thunderbird (v2.0.0.9 (20071031)) on WinXP Pro. I’ve been using SMTP port 587 for several months, but noticed that the Y! POP settings page now suggests using 465. Changed the port but still get the same error message as above.
Yes, my address is verified (several years ago and my account still reflects this).
Clutching at straws here, but could the problems with Thunderbird be a result of the Firefox upgrade a few days back?
The solution Georg R quoted above worked for me, after a great deal of frustration. It had to be added as a second address to send from in the AT&T/Yahoo webmail interface (in addition, apparently, to the verification step).
Same problem: smtp service shut down right after 5pm. After much poking around, I found their phone support number (877-722-3755). A recorded message under the “email support” menu says that they are aware of problems and are working on it. Expected resolution is midnight EDT (stated as 11pm CDT).
I hope they get it fixed. Most annoying to have outbound email shut off.
I am using Outlook 2003 and started having this problem on 2/12 at around 3:15 (PST) I just changed my email address under email accounts to my sbcglobal account. It works, but my outgoing emails show they are from the wrong address now (sbcglobal instead of my 3rd party account). When people reply it comes to my 3rd party address, but this is not a permanent fix. Any better ideas?
just change your smtp-port to 587. this is how you do it:
1. From the “Tools” menu, select “Accounts”
2. Select your Yahoo! POP account and click on the “Properties” button
3. Click on the “Advanced” tab
4. Next to “Outgoing server (SMTP), change port 25 to 587
5. Click “Apply”, then click “OK” and “Close”
I’m using Eudora, and having the same problem.

I think this is a yahoo SMTP bug…
I also noticed this problem yesterday. I hadn’t been on for a few days as I was sick but I’d been using port 587 for years. I’m on thunderbird 2.0.0.9 but I upgraded that 2 months ago. I’m on a mac so it’s cross platform.
This is on my second account so I tried changing the sender to my yahoo address and it works but it shows the wrong sender (just like someone else noticed). Reply-to still works but it shows wrong.
Something is most definitely broken. Oh and it was a pain to find this particular thread where this exact problem was discussed and the help desk just said ‘uh go search the forums’. oook thanks.
I just started having this same problem this afternoon and can only send emails from my sbcglobal.net account. No other access is being granted. This is killing me. I have verified the email that won’t send and still nothing. I can’t figure this one out!
